Libraries for LIFE
Capital Campaign,
Building Communities, Enriching Lives
Through the Libraries for LIFE Capital Campaign, Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh began the process of adapting 19th century buildings to 21st century requirements. As of December 2010, ten capital projects were completed under the Libraries for LIFE Capital Campaign. With each project, library use has increased as community members find unique spaces for children and teens, open meeting areas, well-lit and comfortable areas for browsing and reading, computer and Internet access and wireless connectivity.
This first-ever capital campaign in the Library's history surpassed its $55 million goal and provided funds to renew more than half of the library system.
While the campaign formally ended December 31, 2010, the Library's need has not. Nearly half of the Library's current facilities still require significant upgrades. DID YOU KNOW?
The Library maintains two separate budgets - one for operating costs and one for capital.
Many renovated branches of the Library are Going Green.
